What have I done? I had it made - a life of disabled luxury. Nothing to complain about but the neighbour's woofer. I traded it all away to ride around on a machine a fruit warehouse. They already signed me up. There's no turning back now. And four out of five days a week. Pretty good hours for part-time. But why? Why? I think it will be nice to have another life outside my rooming house. Little things get so blown out of proportion when you spend too much time at home. I had a lot of catching up to do with my music and writing, but I'm into new songs and blogs now. And that credit card, I see it forming into a real object now. A real piece of plastic with my name on it that lets me get paid for my music on the internet. But don't let whoever accepted money for my comedy to say they wrote it. That's mine too, and I posted it for free. So I got through my test without killing anyone or causing any major damage. So far, so good. And I noticed that they have the new smart fruit at this warehouse. Imported from Asia, I think. They're way ahead of us in the juice race. Smart Fruit (Copyright 2014. David Skerkowski.) The fruits of the future are already here They don't just stay fresh or shine like a mirror But possess special features few would know To protect them from bandits as they grow It's thought to hold the raids at bay If enough offenders pay By making fruit smart enough to understand When it has been picked by a criminal hand The latest bananas are rigged with a chip If you peel without paying you'll more than slip If you squeeze an orange before you buy It'll squirt its juice straight into your eye Apples will not fall on your head They'll make you climb up and fall instead And the only grapes that have a seed Are from bunches grabbed in greed No use heaping on a tray Fruit for which you did not pay For fruit salad you'll be stuck It'll self destruct if you wrongly pluck It might smell extra sweet But the rap you won't beat When a bee flies in and you get in its path Just when you're ready to step in the bath But the system's not fault free When toying with nature there's always a fee At fruit conventions there have been fights When crops busted in demanding their rights | ||||||||||
