Without Equal

Without Equal
Have you ever given any thought to how hypocritical the concept of social equality ultimately is? It sounds good on the surface, though. It promises fairness. But let's face it: it doesn't exist; it goes against nature; and we don't really want it.

First of all, who are they trying to make me equal with? Am I supposed to be equal with people who leave a mess in the bathroom? Am I supposed to be equal with people who want to party on Welfare Day? Am I supposed to be equal with jailbirds? Am I supposed to be equal with junkies and deviants? I don't want to be equal with people like that. I'd rather rise above them - as far above them as I can get.

And I earned my workplace skills. My web training was only offered after I'd stayed in an unskilled job for three years. And my forklift job was a promotion after standing over a conveyor belt for a whole year. Always some whining excuse for their lack of effort. What a pathetic lot.

On the other hand, my superior abilities, whichever they might be, are a gift from God or from nature. Nature makes everyone different, and by making us different renders us incapable of equality. In any footrace, each runner finishes at a different time. Trying to equalize that only holds the best runners back, besides destroying the thrill of the event.

And I'm sure the Lord is pleased by the efforts of our heroic 911 team when they save a drug addict from death by accidental overdose on Welfare Day. When it comes to health, we're all equals, right? Still, they're not doing me any favours when I can't get into my bathroom because the person they saved is using it as their bedroom. After they save their lives, why don't they invite them into their homes? Are they not equal enough?

Anyway, I'm glad I got this job now to help me improve my image. It's painfully easy for me to see how being unemployed could have harmed it.
